At that time, she discovered a passion for childbirth that was well supported by her studies; a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Health Sciences and her Bachelor of Education.

After training with CAPPA in the fall of 2005, she began to attend births, as well as in-service trainings and La Leche League meetings to enable her to better support new moms. In 2008 she completed her Labour Doula Certification. Since then she has been privileged to attend a variety of births both in hospitals and in homes. She has experience assisting women through natural births, medicated, c-sections, and V.B.A.C.s.

In addition to supporting women during childbirth, Mindy has done plenty of peer breastfeeding and post partum support, and she has been teaching Childbirth education classes. Helping couples to prepare for the birth of their child is truly a culmination of her birth enthusiasm and her expertise as an educator! She has also attended some amazing birth related conferences for continuous professional development.

Her philosophy about childbirth and supporting women and their partners through labour is largely encompassed by CAPPA’s vision statement

She believes that our current medical system relies too heavily on intervention, when birth is actually a normal and natural process. However she also believes that medical interventions have a time and place. It is critical for women to be educated as to their options so that they feel empowered by the decisions that they make.
